Spring Break: New York City

Conversations among the students

"Some of the experiences we had while in NYC were visiting many great art museums, as well as getting to visit an artist studio and take part in a DIY workshop. Another great experience for many of us was getting to ride the subway for the first time!"

"The artist we met with (Molly) was relevant to our class in that she works heavily with the community through her art work. We learned a lot about the process she goes through in order to achieve her final product and the impact it has on the community. Visiting the many museums was great in that we got to see a lot of influential works of art in person, rather than just on a powerpoint, and it was neat to be so immersed in all the influential works."

"The D.I.Y. was great because we learned about a project that we can take home or really take anywhere, as it is not limited to having certain studio requirements."

"Everyone lives on top of one another in this city. For it being the place where people have the largest perception of their own personal space, there isn't much space to move in. Or if you'd prefer you can just use this bit of long lyrics:

"my windows look into your living room, where I spend the afternoon on top of you. I wonder what it is that I did to make you move in across the way from me."

I think it says a lot about how closely packed in everyone is while still being the center of their own little world, with little regard to the people around them."

"Whilst in Central Park, we took our time to relax before heading off into the New York rush. I'm not usually fond of being in the city, but I think I found a place I'm comfortable with even if it is with the pigeons."

" I think this trip was great bonding time with the people I see on a daily basis, but never really get to be with. We were the little ducklings following our mother taking care of each other. We would always make sure everyone was safe and accounted for each time we got on and off the subway or
going through the crowds of Chinatown. I have to say I am extremely proud of who we are as  group and what we represent."

"I have had a couple of day trips to NYC previous to this experience but I had never stayed in there for any great length of time. As soon as I heard  that the LLC was going on a trip to the city I was all giddy. The whole time I was there I was not disappointed. It was fantastic to have so much time to visit all the different museums as well as the many other attractions available in New York City. My favorite part of the wholetrip though was going to the MoMA and seeing Starry Night. I am a huge fan of VanGogh and to see one of his greatest works in person was amazing. The trip was fantastic and I’m glad I got to experience it along with my fellow LLC members."

"I thought the CREATE LLC trip to New York City was in a single word- awesome! We learned a lot while we were there; from how to do printmaking at 3rd Ward in Brooklyn to how to navigate the subway system. There were many sights to see as we walked around. This picture is of something I saw as we walked around, took a picture of, and it ended up being one of my my most beautiful photos from the trip."

"The trip to New York was truly amazing. Spending entire days focused on art was a lot of fun for me and touring all of those museums was really great seeing all of those paintings in person broadened my mind a bit. The print workshop as well was enlightening and we learned a lot of really nice tricks to use in future projects."

"Taking the subway, walking in central park, I never thought I could feel stand spending more then a day in New York. This trip made me feel comfortable traversing the city."
